It has been nearly 3 weeks since we saw the heartbeat and my joy and confidence is waining and nervousness has set in. I have transferred our Dr care to the University of Washington Maternal and Infant care clinic - but our first appointment there isn't until I am 12 weeks along (february 5th). Normally this clinic only sees high risk mothers, because it is a top national hospital with the best Neonatal clinic in the area... that said, I was able to get connected with dr their named Dr McMahon because Kathy's mom works in the clinic and thinks she would be a really good fit for me...
Anyways, Kathy mentioned to her mom that I was feeling really nervous - and Elaine being the wonderful woman that she is, said that there was not reason for me to worry at all and I just needed to hear that heartbeat for a little reassuance. So we arranged to meet in the morning at the clinic in the hospital, before the place even opened.
Unfortunately, Niels couldn't make it due to meetings in the morning. So I arrive and meet Elaine - and break the news that I really want reassurance that everything is ok, but I don't want to hear the heartbeat without Niels there :-( (and I start to cry... oh too many hormones). Elaine, wonderful Elaine, without a blink says ok - I will just go get the ultrasound machine! Seriously?!! That is so cool. I don't feel like I am cheating Niels (much) since he already saw munchkin on the ultrasound and I won't be hearing the heartbeat so all is fair.
So she grabs the ultrasound machine and immediately finds the kiddo - He/She has gotten BIG!!!! Ok, really only a couple inches if that, but bigger than the little tadpole of a couple weeks ago. Elaine showed me the head, the arms, the legs, and the wonderful site of the baby's heart beating. The heart is now 4 chambers so you can see the beats even better! And then the jelly bean began to dance!!!! he/she was flip flopping and dancing and kicking!! Elaine was very impressed with how much Baby Bakker was movin and groovin!! I was just so relieved to see baby is doing well! I called Niels right when I was out, he was totally excited too and luckily not mad that I did the ultrasound without him there!
