28 weeks: Chinese Cabbage and The Home Stretch!

Big week for the Bakkers!

For Baby...

  • She has now been baking for 28 weeks!

  • She is about the size of a Chinese cabbage. A foot and a couple inches long and about 2.25 pounds (over a kilo!)

  • If she were to come out now (oh little dear, please don't) she would have a very high chance of survival because she is basically fully developed and spends the next few months putting on fat

  • Read more about her development HERE

For Mom...

  • I am now officially in my third trimester! The home stretch! The Last mile of this marathon! I get a flutter of excitement (and panic) every time I look at our blog, today we have 82 days and counting till my due date! Eeeeeekkk!

  • Apparently now begins the downhill slide of my level of comfort, my energy levels, and my good nights sleep.

  • At 28 weeks the doctor says basically, the mom's job is basically done. She has done everything she needed to do to get baby to this important milestone and stage - now its up to baby to pack on the pounds and decide when she is ready to enter the world.

For All of Us (including Niels :-))...

  • Other big news is that this week we have her follow-up ultrasound. read back about 8-10 weeks and you find a blog about her first big ultrasound and how her little kidneys were slightly enlarged but it is something that frequently babies will grow out of - so this appointment is to check and make sure everything is normal

  • We also have our regular 28 week appointment, after this point we start going to see the Doctor every 2 weeks instead of once a month.
