To make sure the dump was in the condition we thought it was in, we had a home inspector, sewer guy, HVAC specialist, roofing guy, and two general contractors come by. The home inspector (Mike, who we have used 3 times now!) came up with issues, like rodent infestation in the attic, roof needs to be replaced, heater end of life (original 1960's oil heater), all plumbing needs to be replaced, and the house needed to be rewired. Still we weren't to scared of the dump, as we already factored most of those issues. However after having all the above mentioned people go through the house.....the costs started to add up to a lot more than we anticipated and the biggest problem was the inability to stage the remodel around living in the house especially with a little baby. Helen and I discussed the dump and decided that it truly was a dump and not interesting to us anymore, therefore we declined to make a counter offer....no more dump, we are finally done with the dump!! One bright spot for any prospective buyer, was the fact that the sewer video came back completely clean, when the sewer guy handed us the CD he also gave us some popcorn...I thought that was pretty funny (we left it at the dump). Done-Done-Done with it!
